Aging Marinas Must Decide Whether to Renovate,
Upgrade, or Rebuild
As marinas age and the primary function of the
marina is tested against developing markets, new uses, and changing
technology; the marina
owner often must look at his original investment goals to decide to
renovate, upgrade or rebuild the facility. The old design paradigm of
“build it and they will come and stay forever” is being changed to
“get to market as soon as you can with the most appropriate marina”
and keep current on changing marina demands in order to keep the rates
competitive and the marina facility full.
The article by Jon Guerry Taylor, P.E. was featured
in the October, 2005 issue of Marina Dock Age. It gives a broad spectrum
of considerations for evaluating the issue of Marina renovations,
upgrades and rebuilds.
