Launching Facility

Charleston County Park and Recreation directors have recognized the recent explosive growth in kayak and canoe use. To meet the need for boating facilities and also provide barrier-free access facilities, park directors had to provide launching facilities at both new and existing park sites. The Charleston County Park & Recreation Commission (PRC) has also become the home for the annual southeastern kayak symposium, a gathering for kayak/canoe suppliers, builders, outfitters and users.

The aluminum floating cradles have been used by the PRC as part of their creek tours and teaching programs. The barrier-free cradles are also used by the Medical University of South Carolina as part of their physical therapy program.

They easily serve the physically challenged park patrons by providing barrier-free access to the water amenities that were not previously available to them.
