The Broad Creek Boat Landing is located on Hilton Head
Island and is a joint effort between Beaufort County and the Town of
Hilton Head Island. The site is located along the Broad Creek adjacent to
the Cross Island Expressway bridge. The facility has two 14 foot wide
ramps along with a 6’x230’ fixed pier, 10’x16’ pierhead and a
10’x60’ concrete floating dock. The ramp and fixed pier extend
approximately 300’ into the Broad Creek and over saltwater marsh. The
filling of saltwater marsh was mitigated at two sites within Beaufort
County. The mitigation sites included both low and high marsh, bank
stabilization and upland landscaping. The area beneath the Cross Island
Expressway bridge was utilized as parking for the site and includes 39
trailer parking spots and 10 car parking spots. The bridge drainage system
had to be modified to incorporate the parking beneath the bridge. This
included piping the scupper drainage system and enlarging the existing
stormwater detention pond to handle the bridge drainage along with the
site drainage from the ramp and parking area.
