FIRM PHILOSOPHY:  “Environmental Quality through Design”

We, as Planners, should create projects to function in today's markets and environment.  We, as Engineers, are practical scientists and should design both functionally and economically with the most appropriate materials.  As Environmentalists, we need to be true to the site and resource regulations.  For these reasons, our experienced "in-house" professional staff represents a broad spectrum of project permitting, planning, design and construction experience.  This factor combined with environmental planning knowledge and over twenty years regulatory agency permitting exposure makes the JGT total one-stop approach to project development unique and comprehensive.

Because we foster a commitment to our clients to provide the highest professional service possible, we employ the most qualified associates, service our projects with dedication, utilize the best economically available computer technology, and maintain ongoing educational and training efforts to keep abreast of current developments in technology and regulatory requirements

FIRM HISTORY

Jon Guerry Taylor & Associates (JGT) is a Professional Engineering, Planning, and Environmental consulting firm specializing in site and civil design, recreational, marina, waterfront, and related facilities planning and design.  The original firm, Jon Guerry Taylor, P.E., Inc. (JGT), had been in business since 1984, however on April 2, 2001, R.D. Zande & Associates, Inc. (RDZ), purchased the assets and a new survivor company, Zande-Jon Guerry Taylor P.E., Inc. (Z-JGT), was begun.

Since 1984, JGT has completed numerous projects along the southeast coastline.  Jon Guerry Taylor, P.E., the firm's founder, was previously Director of Engineering and Construction for Gator Dock and Marine; Principal Engineer with Wilbur Smith & Associates; Director of the Concrete Promotion Council of Florida; and Vice President at Capeletti Brothers, Inc., Lowell Dunn Company, and LBC&W Associates of S.C.  Through his employment with these companies, Mr. Taylor has worked on a variety of planning, environmental, construction and engineering projects ranging from site work, marinas and bulkheads, to paving, stormwater and utilities, dredging, mining, and permitting.  In the past eighteen years, the firm expanded into full service planning, permitting, and design of coastal facilities such as groins, revetments as well as navigation and dredging projects.

PROJECT COMMUNICATIONS AND DOCUMENT PRODUCTION

There are no draftsmen at JGT; design professionals use computer-aided software and sophisticated programs to express their unique designs.   The firm utilizes AutoCAD and Land Development Desktop and is also capable of interaction with GIS Data systems.    An internal, PC based computer network system provides seamless communication on a real time basis. Our Internet access allows easy communication with clients, consultants, and subconsultants.  JGT uses digital cameras and videos for prompt importation into computer format for inclusion in reports and studies.

Using Microsoft Project, JGT works closely with consultants and subconsultants and develops schedules for design and construction that create timely delivery of projects.  Quality control is emphasized internally and consultants are employed for specialized project requirements.  Our professional staff has over 100 years combined experience to utilize in construction administration and inspection.

PROJECT SCOPE, DESIGN DEVELOPMENT AND CLIENT APPROVAL

The planning and design of any project requires a realistic assessment of the market driven factors, the intended use, the site-specific parameters, and the environmental restraints.  An apparently successful planning project that is drawn into lengthy delays from the permitting process does the client little good. JGT will work closely with the client representatives and reviewing agencies to develop a project design that will addresses the project demands while economically satisfying the construction and regulatory parameters.  The firm has over eighteen years experience working with local, state and federal agencies.  Mr. Taylor has over thirty-five years experience working with agencies and public groups of all types.

SCHEDULING AND COST CONTROL

Schedules on rigid time line projects require extensive communication between project members.  Once the project scope is established, the value of knowledgeable people who have worked together becomes prominent.  There is little time to develop and ride a learning curve, so design professionals who already know what to do are needed to keep the project on schedule.  An internal computer network system provides seamless communication on a real time basis.  JGT's existing clients include large corporations or public agencies such as Nucor, Jacobs Engineering, General Dynamics, City of Charleston, Charleston County Park and Recreation Commission, International Paper, Texaco Lubricants Company, Westinghouse Credit, and Canal Industries.  We also have a vast number of noncommercial clients whom we have worked for on smaller or residential projects.  These satisfied clients know that they can call on JGT to meet their demanding project needs in a timely manner.  Often construction cost and scope of work are at odds, e.g., "the owner may want more than he has a budget for."  While in the preliminary planning and design of the project, we look for alternative designs in materials, construction methods, and construction phasing that will still allow the client to complete a facility in a timely manner within the budget.  Often we develop alternative pricing schemes in the bid documents that allow the client to competitively evaluate the alternatives during the bidding process.

THE FUTURE OF JGT

Jon Guerry Taylor & Associates continues to mature into a firm of talented professionals interested in becoming involved in unique projects.  Our engineers, planners, environmental scientists, and administrative staff are all directly involved in design, production and project management.  We all share in one vision “environmental quality by design”, so we all share the responsibility for excellence in our completed projects.  Our project work ethic demands a close relationship with our clients so that we can remain close to the schedule and cost for the project.  JGT began on the strength of Mr. Taylor's entrepreneurial drive, and has since steadily expanded to encompass the experience and talents of many fine professionals.

We at JGT believe there is a responsibility borne by professionals for continuing career growth.  One manifestation of that growth is a dedication to organizations with which we share goals.  Not only do we associate ourselves with these organizations through membership and licensure, but members of the firm often serve as officers and on committees, as well as deliver technical papers or present our ongoing projects at their national, regional, and state meetings.
