Landing was one of the first festival commercial developments in Myrtle
Beach. It also happens to surround a historically sensitive environmental
area between U.S. Highway 17 and the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway.
Working with the land and commercial
planners we developed an environmentally sensitive master plan that
included limited filling of wetlands, reservations for wildlife easements,
vegetated buffers for wildlife activity, and pedestrian access to
sensitive wildlife areas. Approval for construction in U.S. Army Corps of
Engineers easements were made possible through alternate spoil basin
developments that allowed a release of the Corps easements opening those
areas to further development. A marina permit for floating docks along the
Intracoastal Waterway was also obtained.
Barefoot Landing continues to be one of
the most successful commercial ventures in the Myrtle Beach area. It is
also one of the largest shopping complexes in Horry County, and is a focal
point for numerous tourist attractions, including boat rides on the AIWW,
live music, factory outlet shopping, restaurants, and specialty shops.
